2026-2028 Catalog

Offered at: San Luis Obispo Campus

The goal of the Entrepreneurship minor is to empower students to create economic and social value in any discipline. Students in the Entrepreneurship minor will acquire the tools, develop the skills, and cultivate the mindset of an entrepreneur. This minor comprises a set of courses chosen to provide a balanced and interdisciplinary approach to entrepreneurship. While the Entrepreneurship minor is open to students from all colleges, it is not open to Business Administration or Economics majors, since those majors are able to choose an Entrepreneurship concentration. There is an application process and students must be in good standing in their majors.

Program Learning Objectives

  1. Demonstrate entrepreneurial discovery skills (questioning, observing, experimenting, associating, and networking) and the ability to generate new insights that impact a startup’s business model.
  2. Develop a business model to address a new venture opportunity and viable strategies to sustain a start-up business.

Minor Requirements and Curriculum

The minor must be completed prior to, or at the same time as, the requirements for the bachelor's degree. A major and a minor may not be taken in the same degree program, and a minor is not required for a degree. Requirements for the minor include:
  • At least half of the units must be from upper-division courses (3000-4000 level).
  • At least half of the units must be taken at Cal Poly (in residence).
  • No more than one-third of the units will be taken with credit-no credit grading (CR/NC), not counting courses with mandatory CR/NC. Departments may further limit CR/NC grading if desired.
  • A minimum 2.0 GPA is required in all units counted for completion of the minor.
