The Office of Writing and Learning (OWL) supports student learning and achievement across the university by coordinating key programs and services, including the Early Assessment Program (EAP), English placement, Supportive Pathways for First-Year Students, and the Graduation Writing Requirement (GWR). OWL also oversees a suite of learning support programs offered through the Tutoring and Learning Center, such as academic coaching, one-to-one tutoring, writing support, supplemental workshops in science and math, STEM-specific study sessions, and subject-specific Help Hubs. Together, these efforts advance degree progress and student success from the first year through graduation.

The Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) offers free peer-to-peer academic support in a collaborative, welcoming environment. Undergraduate and graduate tutors provide one-to-one and small-group consultations for courses across all six colleges. Students may also access drop-in assistance through subject-specific Help Hubs and STEM-focused study sessions. All learning support is student-driven, guided by the individual questions and needs students bring to each session. This approach fosters a campus space dedicated to student-centered learning, where students strengthen course knowledge while developing transferable skills and strategies for long-term academic and career success. More information on services available through the TLC is available at https://writingandlearning.calpoly.edu/tlc/ .
