The Statistics Department offers a wide range of introductory and specialized courses for students across the University, along with a dynamic undergraduate degree program in Statistics for those pursuing careers in industry or graduate study. The department also offers two master’s degree options—a traditional two‑year program and a blended B.S.+M.S. pathway—as well as a Statistics minor. It also contributes to several interdisciplinary programs, including the Actuarial Preparation, and Data Science and Bioinformatics cross-disciplinary minors.
Data play a critical role in nearly every aspect of modern life—from research and business to technology and public policy. Professionals in all fields benefit from the ability to design studies, collect, organize, and analyze data, and draw informed conclusions. Statisticians, in particular, combine strong mathematical reasoning with computational and analytical skills to solve real-world problems and communicate their findings clearly to diverse audiences.
Employment opportunities for graduates with expertise in statistics and data science continue to grow rapidly. Cal Poly Statistics alumni have pursued successful careers in industries such as banking, technology, social media, retail, entertainment, insurance, education, and pharmaceutical research, as well as in graduate programs nationwide.
