JPNS 1101 Elementary Japanese I (4 units)

Beginning Japanese. Class practice and assigned outside work in pronunciation, sentence structure, reading, writing, and conversation. Language taught in an intercultural context. Course may be offered in classroom-based, online, or hybrid format. 4 lectures. Formerly offered as part of the JPNS 101, 102, 103 series, students may not earn credit for both JPNS 101 and JPNS 1101.
JPNS 1102 Elementary Japanese II (4 units)

Prerequisite: One of the following: JPNS 101, JPNS 1101 or instructor placement.

Class practice and assigned outside work in pronunciation, sentence structure, reading, writing, and conversation. Language taught in its intercultural context. To be taken in numerical sequence. Course may be offered in classroom-based, online, or hybrid format. 4 lectures. Formerly offered as part of the JPNS 101, 102, 103 series, students may not earn credit for both JPNS 102 and JPNS 1102.
JPNS 2201 Intermediate Japanese I (4 units)

Prerequisite: Completion of GE Area 1 with grades of C- or better (GE Area A for students on the 2020-26 catalogs); and one of the following: JPNS 102, JPNS 1102, or instructor placement.

Development of presentational, interpersonal, and interpretive intermediate-level language skills in Japanese within an intercultural context. To be taken in numerical sequence. Course may be offered in classroom-based, online, or hybrid format. 4 lectures. Fulfills GE Area 3B (GE Area C2 for students on the 2020-26 catalogs).
